Nowcasting Real GDP for Saudi Arabia1*

چکیده
The paper constructs monthly GDP nowcasts for Saudi Arabia by estimating a Generalized Dynamic Factor Model (GDFM) on panel of 272 variables over the period from January 2010 to June 2018. produced in this can accurately mimic growth rates Arabia, including non-oil sector. Our GDFM has outperformed other traditional models tracking business cycle Arabia. In our view, private sector provided substitute set indicators used monitor activity.

Nowcasting Gdp in the Euro Area
This paper compares the mixed-data sampling (MIDAS) and mixed-frequency VAR (MFVAR) approaches to model speci cation in the presence of mixed-frequency data, e.g., monthly and quarterly series. MIDAS leads to parsimonious models based on exponential lag polynomials for the coe¢ cients, whereas MF-VAR does not restrict the dynamics and therefore can su¤er from the curse of dimensionality. But if...
متن کاملMethods for Pastcasting, Nowcasting and Forecasting Using Factor-MIDAS with an Application to Real-Time Korean GDP *
We discuss a variety of recent methodological advances that can be used to estimate mixed frequency factor-MIDAS models for the purpose of pastcasting, nowcasting, and forecasting. In order to illustrate the uses of this methodology, we introduce a new real-time Korean GDP dataset, and carry out a series of prediction experiments, using a two step approach. In a first step, we estimate common l...
متن کاملPooling versus model selection for nowcasting with many predictors: an application to German GDP
This paper discusses pooling versus model selection for nowand forecasting in the presence of model uncertainty with large, unbalanced datasets. Empirically, unbalanced data is pervasive in economics and typically due to di¤erent sampling frequencies and publication delays. Two model classes suited in this context are factor models based on large datasets and mixed-data sampling (MIDAS) regress...
متن کاملForecasting New Zealand’s Real GDP
Recent time series methods are applied to the problem of forecasting New Zealand’s real GDP. Model selection is conducted within autoregressive (AR) and vector autoregressive (VAR) classes, allowing for evolution in the form of the models over time. The selections are performed using the Schwarz (1978) BIC and the Phillips-Ploberger (1996) PIC criteria. The forecasts generated by the data-deter...
متن کاملDo commercial real estate prices have predictive content for GDP?
Using a uniquely compiled database concerning rental prices of commercial real estates, which are property of the largest broker in the Netherlands, we examine if these prices have predictive value for quarterly economic growth. In contrast to related studies, we document that the mean price contains no relevant information, whereas other properties of the price distributions have. We show that...
